kian & i tried a few interesting/nice places to eat over e wkend...

gaia korean restaurant
found this when i was browsing HGW for ideas, ratings given are all very good, so decided to give it a try. located @ suntec, environment was nice & food was good too! u get to enjoy 6 refillable (i like!) side dishes b4 e meal too~~ yumyum~~
we had bbq pork, meat was nicely marinated & e chef will cook it on e hotpan on ur table for ya~~

kian had kimchi soup~~

i had ginseng chicken~~

klee
recommended by Eh & Lf, it's a nice little chill out bar @ wessex estate. their selling pt is e cocktails, where they dun hav a menu & u jus hav to tell e bartender wat u r in e mood for & he'll create it for ya. e bar is tastefully furnished & decorated, gives u e cosy feeling right away.

colbar
short for colonial bar, this place used to be a canteen for e british soldiers and the old school settings still remain today. there's e wooden planks for doors, fans instead of air-con, as well as wooden tables & chairs. i'll recommend it jus for e experience but not for e food. be it presentation, price or taste, e food still hav a long way to go...
e open-spaced greenary is a nice break from e city~~

kian's fish & chips~~
jun's curry chicken~~

sunset grill
yes, u get to watch e beautiful sunset with unobstruct view as it's inside e spore flying club. located deep inside the seletar airbase, it's impossible to reach without a car (note: even wif a car, it's impossible to find it on ur first attempt! ha!). we were quite lost and had to make lotsa turns as e signboards (virtually none) were super difficult to spot.
we saw many private jets parked along e way & kian was joking dat maybe e ppl flew here instead of by car. lol~
famous for its spicy buffalo wings, there are 10 levels of hotness & u get to choose ur level. we had oni lvl 1 & i tink it's alr e max! haha! *thumbs up for e spicy wings*
kian's fish & chips~~

jun's pork chops~~
e dynamics of e crowd is oso very different, mainly constituting ang mohs who are here to chill out. even e chinese here hav a different class of air~~

met up to celebrate gc & wc's bdae @ cash studio...
kian & i hav been to this ktv a few times as it's not as pricely as the others and of course of its bedok location (walking dist to kian's hse). best part is u get to bring ur own food & drinks inside with no restriction.

anyway b4 e ktv, we went to the newly opened parco marina bay & tried the jap ramen @ Nantsuttei (well known for its super long queue during peak hrs). menu is limited, with only a few types of ramen to choose from (eg. wif cha-siew, spring onion, curry, etc) and no side dishes other than gyozas. but the ramen is really good wif a solid soup base! *thumbs up*

rem i was analysing e points system of credit cards and concluding dat it's so pointless? kian reminded me dat there's still e cash rebate system, so i sat down today n zoom in on e cash rebates for each credit card:

citibank dividend card:
5% petrol
2% dining, groceries, pharmaceuticals
0.5% others

POSB everyday card:
5% groceries
3% health & beauty
1% utilities
0.3% others (non-participating merchants)

standard chartered manhattan card:
0.5% for $1-$500
1% for $501-$1500
2% for $1501-$3000
5% for >$3000

UOB ONE card:
$30/$80 cash rebate per quarter if u spent $300/$800 in each of the 3 consecutive mths wif min 3 txn per mth--> this works out to 3.33%

conclusion:
if u r gg for convenience, manhatten card will be a good one to get cash rebates as u hav no restriction to categories or timeline. but UOB card will give more rebates if u diligently follow e requirements and cut-off periods. if u spent a lot on dining, use the citi dividend card.

update of our happenings for e past 2 wks...

jc gathering @ chijmes' lei garden
atas venue is of course chosen by our dear sh, recommending e nice food, ambiance n most imptly e round table which enables everyone to talk to everyone! i almost fainted when i looked @ e pricing, but we had good food & service, so no complains. lol~~ jz tot we r attending a wedding dinner for bain~~
yup, bain is engaged, e first in our class... n relocating to hk wif wilfred who has been posted there. nice~~ maybe kian & i shd find some overseas job n venture out for a few yrs!

durian fiesta @ goodwood park
we tried e durian cake, durian puff n durian crepe of which kian feels dat he can easily find a better replacement for the cake & puff (which is 717). for me, i'm not really critical abt food, unless it's really bad, i cant really tell e differences. but i like e overrall relax & cosy ambiance of goodwood park, i tink life there is twice as slow as e outside world. ha!

ikoi japanese restuarant @ miramar
a treat from hw to commemorate him joining e working force~~
e place is popular for its ala carte jap buffet, wif quite high ratings from food blogs... but service can be slow n seatings may be a bit cramped... we even had to get our own pot of tea to refill ourselves as there's nobody to serve us~~

hebe's first bdae
celebrated kian's niece 1st bdae~~

Clash of the Titans
kian won e movie tix in a contest, so we got to watch the preview on wed @ lido. overrall it's worth a watch, thou kian feels dat everything is very predictable, storyline is jus like the adult version of percy jackson & e lighting thief.
prior to watching these 2 movies, i've zero knowledge of the greek mythology, but i got so interested dat i went to do a little research. the titans, as i learnt from wikipedia, were a race of powerful deities that ruled durin the legendary golden ago. amount e principal greek gods are e 12 olympians, wif Zeus as their leader, and e more famous ones which we saw in e movies are Hades (god of the underworld), Athena (godddess of wisdom & courage), Ares (god of war), Aphrodite (goddess of love & beauty), Poseidon (god of sea). at first i tot the 12 olympians are all of the same generation but i realised Aphrodite, Ares and Athena are actually e children of Zeus, so it's formed by a mixture of generations! Perseus is of course as wat's depicted in e movie, the son of Zeus, e hero who killed Medusa and saved Andromeda from e sea monster. but in e greek mythology, he'll eventually marry Andromeda, which is diff from e movie.
when i try to figure out e whole family tree, it's so huge dat u can read on and on, so i decided dat jus e basic knowledge will suffice! ha!
