Aust trip Day 13 - Newcastle, Port Stephen Sand dunes
we grew bored of e sydney city, thus decided to make a day trip out. we were deciding btw canberra (e capital of aust) & port stephen sand dunes. ended up chosing e latter cos we were tired of city sights.

happily transiting at one of e suburban railway station~~

on e train to newcastle~~

it was a seriously long journey. we had to first take a train to newcastle, transiting twice in e process. Upon reaching newcastle, we had to transfer to a bus which will then take us to port stephen where e sand dunes are. e whole journey took us like 5-6hrs! *faints* & dat's not e worse! it started raining HEAVILY when we reached newcastle & we had no umbrella wif us! drenched from head to toe & shivering in our wet clothes, we still continue our journey to e sand dunes so as not to waste this trip. but obviously all e activities at e sand dunes cant be carried out anymore & we ended up travelling a whole day jus to take pics! it was really an unforgettable exp!

finally reached our destination!!! hurray!!!

we came a long way... of course muz leave something behind! haha...

caught a beautiful sunset~~

Aust trip Day 12 - Sydney city
had our breakfast at Bills, a cafe opened by the famous chef Bill Granger, one of Aust leading food writer & celebrity. it was really worth the visit, e scrambled eggs were so smooth dat they jus melt in ur mouth & e hot chocolate was delicious!Quoted from Financial Times, London: "Breakfast made Bill Granger famous; specially, scrambled eggs. Light, rich & quivering on e plate like jellies of gloss paint, e Aust chef's eggs hav been analysed & eulogised by critics from sydney to new york to london."

Sydney Central station~~largest railway station in aust, wif a total of 27 platforms serving all interurban & interstate. we took e trains to blue mountain & oso newcastle from here. will post more pics of e it then~~

sydney fish mkt~~SFM is the largest market of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the world's second largest seafood market in terms of variety outside of Japan, SFM auctions over 100 species daily.our lunch at SFM, e oysters r really cheap & good! lobster is nice too!

from victoria, we moved on to new south wales & sydney was our first stop. took an overnite coach from mel & arrived in syd early in e morning.
sydney opera house~~ one of e best known icons of aust~~ built in 1973, it was one of e world's most distinctive 20th century buildings. listed under e UNESCO World Heritage Site, e opera house was among the 20 selected finalists in the 2007 New Seven Wonders of the World.

harbour bridge~~ nicknamed the coathanger because of its arch-based design, e bridge carries six lanes of road traffic on its main roadway, two lanes of road traffic (formerly two tram tracks) and a footpath on its eastern side, and two railway tracks and a bicycle path along its western side. According to Guinness World Records 2004, it is the world's widest long-span bridge.

after visiting e 2 iconic attractions of sydney, we proceeded to e cbd area, where i chanced upon e EY building! & sadly again, we cant find dt...
i'm a rep from e spore branch~~ lol!

had an expensive fish dinner at nite. yup, we fine dine... i noe we r supposed to be on a backpacking trip, but fine dininng once in a while is jus a way to pamper ourselves! & this restaurant is highly recommended by our frenz.
blue-eye fish dat kian ate~~

red grouper dat jun ate~~

jus this 2 plates of fish alone cost us ard sgd100~~ we did xin tong for a while & wonder if it's worth it. but kian says dat e fish was e most delicious fish dat he has ever eaten in his whole life, so guess it's worth it ba! haha... well relax la, we r on a holiday!

Night scenes of mel~~

mel cbd actually looked very much quite like spore cbd, wif e high rise offices by e side of e river~~ we saw pwc, ey & kp... kian was quite upset dat there's no dt...

went to crown casino for our buffet dinner~~

this was b4 we ate e food~~ everyone was hungry & happy!

this was after~~ food was so terrible dat we were cursing & swearing throughout e meal! price was ex somemore, even e glass jug dat's used to fill our water (note: plain water oni! if u wan other drinks u've to pay extra!) was yellowish & dirty. we were super astonished by e long queue, y on earth wld anyone wanna eat here?!?!? *faints* but i was highly entertained by e guys, they'll go right down to e details when criticising, like: "did they forget to put eggs inside this cake?" haha... super funny!

Aust trip Day 7 - Philip Island

Philip island, situated in e western port, is located abt 2 hrs drive (140km) from melbourne.

e wildlife park was our first stop~~koalas, wallabies, wombats & many others~~ they r all jus soooooo cute! my fav is e wombat, it's so adorable dat i wanna bring it home! it's kangeroos feeding time! haha... e whole area is filled wif lotsa lotsa kangeroos & they r so tame dat they'll jump towards u & wait to be fed! there's this king kangeroo dat's as huge as me & we r all quite terrified by it (thou it means no harm)! & we r super evil, after we had our hands full of e kangeroos' saliva, we actually wiped it on their fur! lol!

some random pics~~

the highlight of e trip to philip island is of course e penguine parade. As the sun fades in the sky, Little Penguins (e world's smallest penguines) waddle up the beach to the safety of their homes in the sand dunes after their long fishing season.

we werent allowed to take pics due to e sensitivity of e penguines (they r wild, we dun wan to scare them away). this is e closest pic i can find on e web, but still it's nothin like e experience we had. it's really amazing! seeing e little penguines being washed up by e sea onto e beach, waddle & waddle to form a line, then march into their burrows in e sand dues is jus so... beautiful! i was hoping there's really a lost penguine under our car, then we can bring it home! haha...

had Nando's for dinner after a day's activities~~ Nando's is a global fast-food restaurant chain originating from South Africa with a Portuguese theme, specializing in chicken dishes with either lemon and herb, medium, hot or extra hot peri-peri marinades. it's very popular in e US, UK, Aust & NZ, but they hav not enter Asia yet. their peri-peri sauce is so nice dat we bought 4 bottles back spore!

shall continue wif where i left off, where was i... oh ya, e great ocean rd... shall give a little intro... The Great Ocean Road is a 273km stretch of road along the South Eastern coast of Australia between the Victorian cities, constructed as a Memorial to those killed in the First World War, & one of Australia's great scenic coastline drives.

much of e road hugs tightly to e coast, where mountains meet e sea, wif lotsa sharp curves & bends.

some of e great senic dat we visited includes e Loch Ard Gorge, London Arch as well as e famous 12 apostles~~

top 2 pics: Loch Ard Gorge @ Port Campbell, natural limestone and sandstone rock formations created by erosion from waves and rain. the waves were so huge when entering e gorge dat they reaches almost as high as e top~~ it was really beautiful~~
bottom 2 pics: London Arch @ Port Campbell, was formerly called London Bridge b4 e bridge collapes due to its similarity to its namesake.

more pics of e famous 12 apostles~~

not forgetting apollo bay, a coastal fishing town wif a small population of oni 1777 where we went to see gloworms @ nite. din take any photos of e gloworms thou, cos e forest was too dark for any pics. yup, we went into e forest at nite in pitch dark (wif a guide of course).

e table gang: ziyang, xuguang, hongwei, kian & ee how~~
